STORY
STORY
In Oaxaca, the art of red clay pottery is more than tradition—it’s a way of life.
For families who have mastered this ancestral craft, the journey begins at birth. A girl destined to become a potter is raised among clay and fire, learning the rhythms of the earth from her earliest days.
In Macrina’s village, this legacy spans over 20 generations. Using the region’s distinctive red clay, artisans continue to create cookware and serving pieces with techniques that remain unchanged over centuries.
Renowned for its exceptional thermal properties, red clay withstands high heat—making these handcrafted pieces as functional as they are beautiful. Pair them with our other artisan-made clay dinnerware to design a table that’s rich in culture, character, and soul.

MACRINA
Macrina grew up with her hands in the red clay, guided by the wisdom of her Zapotec mother and grandmother—just as they had been before her.
With no local market to support their craft, she boarded a bus to Guadalajara at just 16, determined to sell her family’s pottery and keep their tradition alive. Today, as a grown woman, Macrina continues to shape, share, and celebrate these exquisite handmade pieces with unwavering dedication.
“Red clay is meant to be used,” she tells us. “Put it on the fire, let it earn its burn marks. These pieces are made to work, not to sit untouched. They carry memories—but only if you let them be part of your family.”
